Matthew 21

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.”

This took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:

“Say to Daughter Zion,
‘See, your king comes to you,
gentle and riding on a donkey,
and on a colt, the foal of a donkey.’”[a]

The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt and placed their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit on. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna[b] to the Son of David!”

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”[c]

“Hosanna[d] in the highest heaven!”

10 When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

11 The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”

I love being on the praise team at my church. I love worshiping God, I love to sing and lift up my praise to Him. I enjoy leading the congregation to a place of worship. To see the whole congregation to stir and come close to God is so awesome!

I believe that was what was happening in today’s passage. The Holy Spirit was moving within the people. They were all caught up in the moment, praising and worship the God who created us, who gave us Jesus.

Unfortunately these same people who were praising Jesus and honoring Him as King in of their lives one day, were shouting out for his crucifixion the next.

I hope that is never me. I hope that I never just get caught up in the moment of my worship of God on Sunday morning then by Monday I am ungrateful, discouraged and frustrated with the same God who I praised the day before.

It is really easy to just get caught up in emotions, but Our God is the same Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, He never changes.

Let’s make it a point that we remain in a state of worship all week long not just on Sunday’s.

Major Minute Matthew 20

What can you do to encourage those around you? How can you create a family friendly environment? In what ways could you thank those people in your life who has been generous and giving and let them know that you see their generosity and you appreciate them for it?

Father, I pray that I will always see the actions my husband does through your eyes. That I will hear the words he says through your truth and love. Let me receive his words and actions in the way that he intended them and not stand in judgement or criticism of him ever.  Frame my heart with poise and be the source of my gratitude always.

Matthew 20

13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’  Matthew 20:13-15

When Rich and I were in college one summer, Rich asked me if I wanted to go to mall with him and get something to eat. Knowing that there were very few people on campus during the summer and  that I didn’t have a car, I didn’t think much of the invitation.

Rich was known for his generosity and giving, helpful nature, so I assumed that since he was already going to the mall he just wanted to check and see if I wanted to tag along. As we drove to the store, we had a nice conversation about our families. Then we walked around the mall for a little bit continuing our conversation, after a little while he asked if I would like to stop at the food court. Since it was past dinner time and I hadn’t eaten, I thought that would be a great idea. We both ordered some pizza and when I went to pay for mine, Rich generously said not to worry about it he would take care of the bill. I know what you are all thinking, but since I was such a naive individual, I never really thought anything about this. I have seen Rich many times throughout the year offering to pay for people, we were all college students and never had much money, yet Rich generously paid for people all the time because that was just the kind of guy he was.

As we were driving back to the college, Rich said to me “I really enjoyed our date tonight and I love getting to know more about you and your family. If you don’t mind I would like to take you out again sometime so we can keep getting to know one another better.”

My response…….“You mean I was on my first date? And I missed it!”

I was 19 years old, I never had been on a date and as much as I longed to be in a relationship with someone it never seemed to happen. Now here I was having my first date and I wasn’t even aware that I was on a date.

I laugh at this story with my family as we reminisce about the past. However something I have noticed over the 24 years we have been married, is that my husband is a tremendously generous person. 99% of the time I love this about him, however I am ashamed to say that every once in while I have this twinge of uneasiness about his generosity. Because sometimes I worry that his generosity may hurt us financially.

But then I read verses like the one above. I am reminded that when I entered this relationship with Rich I was fully aware of who he was and what a generous, giving, sacrificing individual he was. He cared about people. He had a heart that wanted to reach out to others and do whatever he could for them. He had a love for helping those that were down and out. He had a gift from God that can not be explained but can be seen if you know my husband you could just see, how his light shines for Jesus everyday as he reaches out to others.

In the parable in Matthew 20 we see people being willing to work for a denarius. They fully knew what they were getting into when they agreed to work for the wage that they agreed upon. Yet they became very upset when others came and worked later in the day and received  the same amount.

I hope I am not like that, and most of the time I can honestly say I am not like that, but occasionally I have found myself feeling frustrated with something I love very much about my husband. His generosity. How about you? Do you look at your husband, friend, parent, child and see amazing qualities about them and then later judge them for those same qualities?

When we enter into an agreement with our boss, husband, family member, or friend do we later turn and feel frustrated when that person is doing exactly what they said they would do? Expecting them to be different in some way, to do more, or expect more from them?

I am thankful for my husband and his generosity. His willing to give to others and help those who need help, his passion for caring and understand people and his zeal for reaching out to those that are hurting is a true gift from God.

Major Minute Matthew 19

Psalm 119:68 You are good and do good; Teach me Your statutes.

Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do Your will, For You are my God; Let Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Is the Lord leading you to do something that you may not feel sure about, or may be avoiding? Thinking about these things what are some practical applications you can make to allow God’s good Spirit to direct you as you pursue a life of integrity with Him.

Matthew 19

“Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” Matthew 19:17

If someone asked you,” Can I be good enough to go to heaven?” What would your response be. Can we possibly earn our way into heaven? Can any person ever be good enough to enter eternal life with Christ.

The answer is no…. We are not good enough on our own power to make it to heaven. It is not by our actions alone that we are able to one day live in heaven with Christ.

There is only One who is good and that is God himself. We are all flawed individuals who make mistakes. We are not perfect because we have all sinned.

I must remember that I need Christ in order to make it to heaven. It is not by my good deeds, It is not by my loving nature, it is not by my will that I will have the chance at eternal life. It is by Christ.

Real Goodness.

Not all the things I do is bad, however if I am honest with myself. True Goodness comes from God. I can and will do my best to live my life to the best of my ability. I will try and follow the 10 commandments. I will surrender myself to God in whatever means He feels is necessary. But there is nothing I can do to deserve the right to enter heaven. I can accept God in my life, believe in Him,  ask for forgiveness from Him, be baptized into His name saying that I will live my life devoted to Him and than continue to do so. Even after all that is said and done I don’t deserve heaven. It is by His grace that I can enter heaven. It is God’s riches at Christ expense that allows me to have the chance to be with God in an everlasting wonderful life.

Dear Lord, It is only for your goodness that I am able to have a chance to enter heaven. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that gives us wisdom to understand your word. Help me to lean on you as I am living my life, so that I may be completely surrendered to your will. In Jesus’ name amen.

Major Minute Matthew 18

May you sense Jesus presence with you tonight! May we stay away from the things that cause us to sin. May we run as fast as we can from the things that cause us to feel tempted. May we stand strong in Jesus with His love with us. May we determine that we are not going to stand in judgment of others but do the best we can to live a pure life. May the promise of Jesus returning force you to look up and be aware of all that you are doing so that you will live a life that is acceptable to Him. You are prized, privileged, and precious to God so let’s live our life accordingly. Have a blessed night tonight.

Matthew 18

Let’s not stand in judgement of another but instead let’s decide to not put stumbling blocks in each other’s path.

There’s a pretty strong statement in the Bible about causing someone to sin! It says that if we are doing something to cause one of the little one’s to stumble than it would be better for us to tie a large millstone around our neck.

“If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Matthew 18:6

Wow! This makes me want to be on my very best behavior because I never know who may be watching me  and imitating my lifestyle.

Most of all I don’t want to be responsible for causing others to stumble! I don’t want my judgmental attitude towards others to turn people off from being a Christian.

Today I want to make an effort to live my life as if everyone is watching me, noticing exactly what I do. I want to imagine that people can see me when I am happy and when I am upset. How will I react while these people are watching me. I don’t know about you but I tend to be on my best behavior when I am in public, I tend to put forth my best when I know that others are watching me. So when I am home away from others I am going to imagine that they are still watching me. I never know when someone is going to pick up a bad attitude because of me. I never know when someone is going to be turned off from Christ because of the mistakes I make. I never know how my talking to others may affect different people around me. The Bible is very clear that we need to make sure we are doing everything we can to keep our lives pure and right so that those around us will not fall into the same traps that we do.

Let’s determine to live our lives in such a way that  all those around us will see Christ living in us.

Major Minute Matthew 17

May God increase you faith and allow you to see the potential that your faith can accomplish, even the faith as small as mustard seed. May you be quick to listen to God, slow to speak, and slow to be angry when things do not work out as you planned. As you consider God’s promises today, may you walk in confidence knowing that all things are possible tomorrow as your faith grows and develops. He was faithful, He is faithful and He will be faithful tomorrow.Look above your mountain to the One who will help you move it. Keep moving on in faith. Blessings today!

Matthew 17

God promises that nothing is impossible for us as long as we have faith.

14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”

17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” [21] [a]

Matthew 17:14-21

There’s a deep satisfaction that comes from accomplishing something that you have worked very hard at. However there can also be great disappointment when you are trying to accomplish something you fail at it time and time again.

Today we can be encouraged because Jesus said Nothing is impossible for you. We can move mountains as long as we have faith. Borrowing a statement from my pastor….”What is your mountain?”

Is your mountain sickness and you need healing?

Is your mountain financial stress and you need relief?

Is your mountain discouragement and you need hope?

Is you mountain too much work and you need rest?

God promises that nothing is impossible for those who have faith. So let’s move the mountain that we are facing…. let’s believe that we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Even if we only have faith as small a mustard seed we can move the mountains that are looming over us. God is with us, He will not forsake us. Let’s believe in Him!

Father, You are forever faithful to your word. You give us strength in your word and encourage us with your message. You are graceful and merciful to us. Thank you for loving us enough to show us that all we have to do is believe in you and anything is possible with your help.Today Lord, grant us the ability to move our mountains, the wisdom to see what we need to do in order to move the mountains that are overpowering us, and the courage to turn away from our doubt and leap into our faith. Help us trust you today, even when it seems hard. In Jesus’ name amen.

Just a note: I have been missing in action for some time now, some of you may know that my life has been completely disrupted and what use to be normal is now very, very different. Tonight was the first chance in months that I have had a chance to even look at my blog. I was trying to decide if I should write a new blog or just post the one that I had written a few months ago after reading this one I was greatly encouraged. Because as I am traveling through some of my own personal obstacles. I am reminded that God is real and any mountain we are facing can be moved, with God’s help. Hang in there! God bless you all. Have a great night.

Major Minute Matthew 16

John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Thought is :

  • an idea or opinion produced by thinking or occurring suddenly in the mind.

Peace is:

  • freedom from disturbance; quiet and tranquility:

Evil is:

  • profoundly immoral and malevolent:

Expected end is:

  • regard (something) as likely to happen:

God has ideas for us that involves freedom from disturbance, and not profoundly immoral plans, He regards something as likely to happen for us that will be good not bad. We need to reflect on God and listen to Him. The plans He has for us is good we just need to follow them.

Think about it if you are reflecting on God, you will hear, and see his Will for your life.Reflecting depends on us being in God’s word, having conversation with Him and Listening for His direction.

In the book of Matthew and John and Jeremiah, we find that we will be blessed when we allow God to speak to us, we can’t come to God except through Christ, and that God only wants the best for us.

John 10:27

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Romans 10:17

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.

Jeremiah 33:3

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

John 8:47

Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
